It is becoming more and more difficult for us human beings to parse the relevant information in our data-overloaded world. With the advent of the Internet, the available data has reached unprecedented levels while at the same time, thanks to the wide availability of mobile devices, it has become easier to register more personal data sets, such as life-logs. The problem is that the tools needed for us to extract and understand the relevant information in this data are lagging behind.

My interest lies in the design of new representations that allow people to assimilate data in a simpler way not only through the use of existing visual channels but also auditive and tactile channels. Using more senses will allow for more efficient data representations. This combination of data mining, computer graphics, human-computer interaction and procedural techniques to produce nice yet informative displays will surely open the way to a better understanding of our world.

Moreover, I am also interested in new ways to explore the creation process that is involved in various fields from design to art including music by developing new performance devices - instruments, drawing tools that allow for new interaction with the medium, mixing information and beauty at the same time. I see those devices as live representations of the data created by the artist: where performance meets information.
