[altq 1102] NetBSD altq bug?
Hello all,
I am using ALTQ on NetBSD 1.5, and have come across some odd results with
CBQ. I am working on a Cyrix MediaGX 233, 128mb ram. 2 network interfaces:
rtk0 and wi0. I know that altq doesn't work with realtek cards, so at this
point I am just trying to get rate limiting going outbound the wi0
interface.
the wireless interface has the availability to sed a few different media
types. The ones I am using are: 1mbit, 2mbit fixed, and 5.5mbit fixed.
Depending on the rate I want to set, I will change the media type to the
lowest possible speed while giving me the rate I need. Then I use altq to
limit the rest of the way.
I am using the following table to limit rates, based on real-life tests I
have conducted to assure proper bandwidth:
Interface speed Bandwidth Percentage
1mbit 128k 14
1mbit 192k 20
1mbit 256k 27
1mbit 512k 56
2mbit 768k 40
2mbit 1.0m 55
5mbit 1.5m 35
5mbit 2.0m 43
5mbit 3.0m 65
For the 5mbit interface speeds, I set the media type to 5.5mbit, but as
altq.conf (apparently) can't have a '.' in the interface speed, I used '5m'
in the config file.
At one time I had all of these rates working exactly as I wanted. Then I
rebooted the machine and it didn't work. I ended up with approx. 40kbit
throughput for anything 1.0mbit and lower. Every rate I set at or below
1.0mbit didn't work, and yielded the same results. For whatever reason,
2.0mbit and 3.0mbit rate limited just fine. When I killed altqd, I achieved
full throughput for each media type, so it's not a RF issue.
several days later after beating my head against a wall, I rebooted the
machine again. When it came back up everything worked fine! I could set the
rate to whatever I wanted, and it limited it as expected.
I have rebooted the machine several times now, and I can't get rate
limiting to work, I end up with the same thing: about 40kbit throughput for
anything 1.0mbit or less. Rates for 1.5, 2.0 and 3.0mbit all work every
time. The only thing they have in common is they use the 5.5mbit media
type.
Can anyone shed any light on this? Is this a bug with ALTQ, or the wi0
drivers? Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Please let me know
if there is any other information needed to diagnose this. Any help would be
much appreciated. Thanks!
