[altq 1631] m1 d m2 for sc & rt
Hello,
After attempting to read the SIGCOMM97 paper and not understanding much of it, I thought I should go into why I am interested in m1 d m2 example. Perhaps I'm heading down the wrong path anyways.
I would like to set up something like this:

I was hoping that one of the m1 d m2 parameters in the sc would let me specify "maximum" outgoing bandwidth for an interface. I thought of this after reading:
http://www.csl.sony.co.jp/~kjc/software/TIPS.txt
In section 3.1 under "Service curve" it seems like m2 is a maximum limit.
I also remember reading something in the mailing list about setting a maximum not being possible. In my own tests, setting grate without setting pshare seems to define a min & maximum. I would like to set min/max based on the interface the traffic is originating from. Since ALTQ only regulates "outgoing" bandwidth, I would have to specify the max rate on the destination interface that has a class with a filter defining the originating IP's.
Is this doable?
Please see the diagram and see if it makes sense. I'm more than willing to explain anything else that I mean if something is unclear.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Regards,
Rob Hendelman Jr.
P.S. I did not include the diagram, as I thought it would be rude to post an attachment to a mailing list when many people (such as myself) use a text based e-mail client.
