今や宇宙は単なる研究開発にとどまらず、有効活用や産業化を幅広く展開する段階にきています。人工衛星を用いた放送、通信、気象観測、航法などは人の日常生活に直接的に役立ち、日々の生活に無くてはならない存在となっています。今後、ビジネスの手段として宇宙利用が当たり前になることで、地球上での私たちの生活もより豊かになっていくと考えています。宇宙利用拡大に伴い急速に情報量が増加することが想定され、この大容量データ通信を実現する宇宙光通信システムの研究開発を行っています。
Space has long since moved beyond being merely a domain for research. We are well into the stage of expansive commercial opportunities in space. It is hard to imagine everyday life today without satellite broadcasting, communication technology, weather forecasting and global positioning. I believe further exploitation of space as an integral element of business will yield benefits to people across the planet. Anticipating that the expanded commercial exploitation of space will be accompanied by a rapid increase in the volume of data passing through space, I am conducting research and development related to high-bandwidth optical space communication systems.
