Applied Artificial Intelligence (AAI) Journal

Special Issue on RoboCup and Multi-Agent Game Playing

Scope

Applied Artificial Intelligence, an international journal, will feature a special issue on Robot World Cup (RoboCup) and multi-agent game playing, to be published early or mid 1997. The Robot World Cup Initiative (RoboCup) is an attempt to foster AI and intelligent robotics research by providing a standard problem where wide range of technologies can be integrated and examined. In 1997, the First RoboCup Competition (RoboCup-97) is planned at IJCAI-97, Nagoya, Japan. In order for a robot team to actually perform a soccer game, various technologies must be incorporated including: design principles of autonomous agents, multi-agent collaboration, strategy acquisition, real-time reasoning, robotics, and sensor-fusion. Unlike AAAI robot competition, which is tuned for a single heavy-duty slow-moving robot, RoboCup is a task for a team of multiple fast-moving robots under a dynamic environment. Although RoboCup's final target is a world cup with real robots, RoboCup offers a software platform for research on the software aspects of RoboCup. In this special issue, we call for paper which demonstrate technique to enable soccer play by real robots and software agents, discuss issues on RoboCup, and paper on more general multi-agent game play relevant to the intention of the RoboCup.
