[Article] Paper by Masatoshi Funabashi Published in ICONREM 2026 Proceedings
A paper by Masatoshi Funabashi and Shuntaro Aotake, titled “Thermal Regulation Capacity of Augmented Ecosystems Under Extreme Heat: UAV-Based Surface Temperature Analysis for Climate-Resilient Urban Design,” has been published in Resilience, Multi-risk Assessment and Monitoring, the proceedings of ICONREM 2026.
The study investigated the surface temperatures of augmented ecosystems under extreme heat conditions in Oiso Town, Kanagawa, Japan, using UAV-mounted thermal imaging and other measurement methods. The results showed that augmented ecosystems had significantly lower surface temperatures than monoculture fields and artificial surfaces, highlighting the role of vegetation cover and structural complexity in cooling.
